These are only some of the ways Master Gardeners volunteer their time. Almost any project which benefits the community in some way is an acceptable one. Master Gardeners continue to recognize needs in their community and find ways to address them through their volunteer time.

You can too.
The main objective of the Master Gardener Program is to provide a volunteer staff to assist OSU Extension Agents with questions from the public on home horticulture.  All MG's will be required to spend at least a portion of their volunteer hours (the specific number of hours is as yet undetermined) doing that either in the extension office or through the new On-Call Network and/or at plant clinics.

Volunteer Projects
Each new Master Gardener Intern is required to complete volunteer hours in order to become certified Master Gardeners.  Previously trained and certified MG's are also required to complete hours each year to maintain their status as Master Gardeners.

The number of hours required for new MG's will be 44 for the year 2002.  MG's who have completed all the required volunteer hours for 2001 (either to become certified or to maintain MG status) will be required to complete 20 plus one class this year.

Here are some of the projects Union County Master Gardeners have participated in to complete their volunteer hours:
